EPIC Job Description: Quality Assurance Manager

Position Title: Quality Assurance Manager Reports to: CFO/COO

Start Date: Currently Open Location: Austin, TX

Position Scope: This Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Company produces safe products of the highest quality and consistency, and in compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements. This person will oversee the quality aspects of the manufacturing and supply chain for finished products, including associated raw materials, packaging, manufacturing facilities and storage locations for all EPIC products. The Quality Assurance Manager will work closely with manufacturing, material planning, innovation, and logistics teams in order to accomplish his or her objectives.

The Quality Assurance Manager is a highly motivated individual with experience and passion for food science. Candidates should expect a fast paced growth environment. This position is full time salaried.

Major Responsibilities: While other duties may be assigned, the following is a framework for ongoing responsibilities:

  • Create and own Corporate Quality systems.
  • Oversee certification programs (Non-GMO, Gluten Free, Organic, GAP, Sustainability, etc.) at all locations.
  • Manage programs for USDA, FSMA, FDA and State compliance activities as applicable.
  • Design, implement and ensure conformance to QA programs to prevent food quality or food safety issues at manufacturing facilities (company owned and/or contract manufacturing locations) and off site storage facilities.
  • Develop and manage sampling plans to monitor finished product quality, compositional results to ensure standards of identity are maintained.
  • Provide support for quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for off-site QA audits and troubleshooting to include organizing, prioritizing and completing audit items; review QA results and communicate results to associated EPIC personnel.
  • Troubleshoot product quality issues and ensure root cause / corrective actions are appropriate and are fully implemented.
  • Conduct or direct supplier and internal food safety/GMP audits, and handle third party customer and regulatory food safety/GMP audits.
  • Work with Product Development to ensure that manufacturing and raw material specifications exist and are current and address any additional compliance issues.
  • Assistant in the development on ingredient, formula and flavor profiles for EPIC brands.
  • Manage the supplier approval program and management process for food safety and quality.
  • Approve quality related aspects of new manufacturing facilities.
  • Manage the product and ingredient traceability systems.
  • Stay current with all key regulatory and certifying agency guidelines.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the areas of Quality Assurance and Food Safety by setting goals and identifying key performance indicators in this area of the business.
  • Create and maintain quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provide leadership in coaching, education and training of management staff and employees for Quality Assurance.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science / Technology or equivalent.
  • 5+ years previous Quality Assurance experience in food manufacturing environments with emphasis on meat and related products.
  • Understanding of plant production systems, GMP, sanitation, plant safety, quality systems and organic regulations.
  • Previous experience evaluating, developing and implementing quality systems and specifications.
  • Detailed knowledge of generally recognized food protection standards and FDA regulations.
  • Full understanding of USDA regulations and procedures.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible.
  • Must be able to travel
  • Excellent communication / presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent record keeping / documentation skills.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed including some evenings and weekends.
  • Certifications in SQF, HAACP and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) preferred.
  • Strong project management, time management, organization, comprehension, detail oriented and follow-up skills.
  • Be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Mac OS, Microsoft Office tools, basic laboratory instrumentation.
  • Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans and prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Must understand people and be able to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to do simple math calculations, input data into a computer and analyze data is required.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision (including colors) to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and laboratory results.
  • Requires lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires exposure to machines, chemicals and solvents.

EPIC Job Description: Manager of Purchasing - Material Planning

Position Title: Manager of Purchasing - Material Planning Reports to: Director of Operations

Position Scope: The Manager of Purchasing – Material Planning is directly responsible for the procurement of all ingredients, packaging and related materials. He or she will ensure we have the best products available and a supply chain secured to fuel the rapid growth of EPIC. This person will work closely with manufacturing, quality assurance/quality control, innovation, warehousing and logistics teams in order to accomplish his or her objectives.

The Manager of Purchasing – Material Planning is a highly motivated individual with experience and passion for organizing and streamlining processes in a growth environment. This person will establish raw material pricing, lead supplier negotiations and performance management and is responsible for all purchase decisions. This position is full time salaried.

Major Responsibilities: While other duties may be assigned, the following is a framework for daily responsibilities:

  • Responsible for raw material movements to internal plants as well as 3rd party co-packers, setting appropriate inventory levels, reorder points, etc. for ingredients and packaging
  • Develop and implement guidelines and process for material planning
  • Work closely with sales team to communicate to purchasing team, suppliers, and co-packers any changes in overall schedule and impact to material planning
  • Performs detailed data analysis to track and monitor total spend for contract manufacturing, measures versus baseline costs and challenges pricing changes.
  • Supports new products launches in the development ingredient and packaging specifications, and vendor selection process.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance Group and plants to resolve any quality or food safety issues with incoming materials
  • Ensure adequate supply chain for current needs and rapid future growth
  • Monitor and plan appropriate target for inventory levels
  • Attend industry trade events to create new relationships and stay up on relevant material options
  • Utilizes strategic sourcing methodology to develop category strategies, source, negotiate and manage suppliers to deliver total lowest cost materials and mitigate the supply risks.
  • Work with and guide a small team of purchasing specialists
  • Create and track metrics for standards of performance
  • Identify, implement, and track cost/capital saving opportunities for your team

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree (Masters Preferred) in Purchasing, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years Purchasing or Materials Planning/Warehouse Management experience with specialization in Operations Management in CPG environment
  • 3+ years of relevant purchasing experience in the meat industry across multiple protein types
  • Experience with Food Ingredients, especially in natural foods segments a plus
  • Strong communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Detail oriented, strong analytical skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a strong attention to detail required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Excel skills
  • Experience with ERP systems (Fishbowl preferred)
  • Proven Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; highly adaptable & resourceful

EPIC Job Description: Finance & Accounting Manager

Position Title: Finance and Accounting Manager Reports to: CFO/COO

Position Scope:

We are looking for a reliable finance & accounting manager to supervise, monitor and evaluate all day-to-day finance and accounting activities. This includes developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting financial information. The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager is responsible for completing all work in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, payroll, fixed asset management, inventory management, cost accounting efforts and the support of budget and forecast activities. This position requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. The Accounting Manager will report to the CFO/COO.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Is responsible for daily accounting activities including: processing accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, accrual accounting requirements, payroll and utilities, treasury function, bank reconciliations, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset management, debt activity, etc….
  • Perform capitol budgeting activities.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Performs routine banking requirements.
  • Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure compliance with debt covenants.
  • Work with tax consultants to ensure timely compliance and minimal fees.
  • Supports planning, budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Collaborates with the department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advises on the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Responds to inquiries from the CFO/COO and founders regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Ensures all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new processes and procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Provide training to other departments as well as potential new staff as needed.
  • Helps company meet financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Maintains financial security by establishing internal controls.
  • Drive receivables aging review and lead company Collection efforts on outstanding receivables.
  • Establishes and enforces proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
  • Helps Company avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforcing accounting regulations; recommending new procedures.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Is involved in the strategic planning and the development of new products by supporting efforts to plan, control costs, improve margins, and evaluate as well as plan product mix among other supporting activities.
  • Analyze and interpret financial information that corporate executives need in order to make sound business decisions.
  • Review and monitor costs inherent in the business.
  • Cost accounting activity including the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, break-even and margin analysis, cost object analysis, variance analysis and other support tracing or predicting costs of underlying activities.
  • Construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts, validate cost of goods sold as part of month-end close, accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by GAAP

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 5 or more years of related experience
  • Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & Cost Accounting Standards
  • Ability to collaborate with a multi-departmental team
  • Must be able to adapt to new and different computer programs and software to enable efficient data gathering and analysis
  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data
  • Good written, verbal communication and collaborative skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Consumer Packaged Goods Industry experience preferred
