Morning Routines from EPIC Ambassadors

Morning is a sacred time. Our habits and mindset in the early hours really set the tone for the rest of the day. We asked some of the EPIC Ambassadors what their morning routines look like.

James Hobart – Legendary CrossFit Athlete & Coach

I have two morning routines, and which one I choose depends on my schedule for the day:

  • If I coach the early classes at my CrossFit One Nation gym, then I spend time setting out everything the night before. Then I don't risk waking up my fiancé, and I can squeeze every last minute of sleep out of the clock. I don't like to eat that early, so I typically have a glass of water and some sort of green tea. From there, I will coach the early classes—5:00, 6:30, and 8:30 am. Then I work out—either by myself or I will jump into one of our other morning classes, because that reenergizes me for the rest of the day.
  • If I don't coach the morning classes, then I usually wake up between 5:15 and 6:15. I really enjoy working in the morning, because it’s just a little quieter, and I feel way more productive. Getting up isn't always easy, but once I am up, the morning is such a good time. We usually work out first before we eat. My home gym remains austere, and our workouts are simple and short, usually less than 20 minutes. What I like most about days like this is cooking. After I work for a couple hours, I will make coffee and breakfast for my fiance. Cooking feels like an ongoing experimental process. Breakfasts are easy to cook, and we eat them nearly every day so that gives me to chance to tweak and learn new things constantly.

Spencer Kirksey – Bowhunter & Adventurer

On weekends, my first move is COFFEE (big surprise, I know). Then I’ll usually fling a few arrows out on my property and hit the garage gym to bust out some kettlebell flows. Archery and fitness have been a huge part of my life for a long time, so you can bet that I’ll be doing both at least 4-5 times per week. After all that and I have put off adulting for as long as I can, I’ll start doing something around the house or property.

Shawna Mayo – Firefighter, Athlete & Coach

I get to look out my window every sunrise to the Ski Hill in Breckenridge. After that, I do a 15-minute yoga or stretch session to get the body moving! From there, it’s a fresh cup of coffee through my pour over and breakfast!

I wake up early, do farm chores, meditate, and then start work. I usually practice time-restricted eating (a.k.a. intermittent fasting) where I eat for 3-6 hours per day and fast for 18-21 hours per day. So in the morning, I often have herbal teas that I make myself. For treat days, I will make my homemade organic hot chocolate or organic coffee—both with either C8 MCT powder or my non-dairy organic homemade “creamer.”
